Pulled my sweet potatoes today, not a bad crop considering the rabbits kept eating my vines. Also I surprise straggler zuchini that I just let keep growing.
We have a small 5.5 acre plot of land outside Atlanta that we call home. I call it a hybrid homestead as we both have fulltime jobs so we do what we can to feed ourselves and work the land. Picture "Greens Acres" without the pig.

Garden 2011
A big storm took out a tree right beside the greenhouse!!! I was soooooooooo lucky that it fell to either side of the fence and not on the greenhouse. It did take out a few squash plants but so be it...better than taking out my greenhouse.

Garden 2011
Starting to get big morning harvest of squash and cucumbers. Wish it would have happened a little earlier, but I was a few weeks behind getting everything in the ground this year.

Garden 2011
Progress...plants are growing, I put up a small fence for the cucumbers to grow up this year. Hopefully they will climb up and not spread to far horizontally because the cantelope and watermelon are next to them.

Garden 2011
The main garden seems to be doing great. It will not be long until squash and cucumbers start coming.
Garden 2011
I switched the tomatoes over to to where the watermelon patch was last year. I got my tomatoes planted and got the support towers ready and got the tomatoes supported on lines.

Putting in the Rows
Finished putting the drip irrigation down, and got the rows covered with black paper. Finally got the plants in the ground, if you look close you can see that I got almost every row planted. I will be adding plants here and there, but for the most part it is in.

Garden Prep 2011
I tilled the garden and made the raised rows. It was hard work but it will pay off in the end. I'm starting a little later than normal. Usually by "tax day" I like to be planting my plants in the ground...but I'm a few weeks behind this year. Notice my beautiful NEW greenhouse at the end of the row....isn't it pretty!!!

Greenhouse Finished (for now)
I finished up the greenhouse by painting it inside and out, and weather sealing it around the gaps at the roof and the ground. It is holding heat very well. I am super pleased with the way it turned out.
Here are some plants growing in my new greenhouse. You can also see in the picture that I attached 3 windows on each side of the greenhouse so they could be vented, works out great for those overly warm days in early spring.

Greenhouse Construction Part4
I had to wait 2 weeks, but with help from the "paw in law" he came up with a good idea for the roof. We got the roof completed, and I caulked and sealed the whole thing plus finished the bottom with hardiplank to fill in the gaps due to the existing pad being very un-level.
I cannot wait to start growing my plants for the garden.

Greenhouse Construction Part3
I worked all the next weekend and got all the walls finished and found a great door. So I got it all enclosed and it is really starting to be cool.

Greenhouse Construction Part1
I decided to upgraded from my small Harbor Freight Greenhouse that I have been using for the last 5 years. I contacted a window company I used to work for back in the day and asked if they had any wood windows that I could use. They agreed to let me use some that they had just taken out. Told me I could have all that I wanted. So I went by and got a full truckload. It took a little prior planning to figure out the walls...also, there was an existing cement pad at the end of my garden area that I wanted the greenhouse to be on, so I was working with set dimensions of the pad and the dimensions of the windows. After some trial and error I started construction.
